Holograph letter sent to Secretary of Navy Isaac Toucey, August 25, 1860 from USS Brooklyn, Chiquiri Lagoon, Panama, complaining that Farragut was ordered to wait on Captain Engle, his junior, due to departmental orders. He considered resigning and turning over the surveying project to Engle to save both from embarrassment.

David Glasgow Farragut (also spelled Glascoe; July 5, 1801 – August 14, 1870) was a flag officer of the United States Navy during the American Civil War.
